Pronschinske Takes the Checkered at Red Cedar

Menomonie, Wisconsin (May 17, 2019) The Red Cedar Speedway presented Design Built Structures and Dirt Track Specialties night with the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Modifieds, Late Models and RCS Hornets all in action. One again, the racing surface was in excellent condition making for fast and competitive racing. The feature winners were Jesse Glenz, Clayton Wagamon, Curt Myers, Brandon Jensen, Parker Anderson, Dean Pronschinske, and Bradley York.

Jake Redetzke and Jesse Glenz won the Late Model heats and Glenz left little suspense in the feature when he blasted from the outside of row two to the point on lap one. The racers were three-wide coming off of turn four on lap one, but the outer groove gave Glenz the momentum he needed to lead at the line. Glenz continued his assault on the speedway as he stretched his advantage to more than half a track over second place. He impressively drove to the win on the high side with no issues or challenges.

Initially, Mike Keller ran in second over Mike Prochnow and Pat Doar could be seen closing from his eighth starting position. Doar eventually navigated himself into second, but there was no catching Glenz out front. Jake Redetzke moved to the third position as Buddy Hanestad, who had dropped out of the top five earlier, rebounded and drove to fourth. Rick Hanestad rounded out the top five.

Two heats were run in the WISSOTA Modified class with Grant Southworth and Mike Anderson each gaining wins. The start of the feature saw Mike Knopps edge into the lead but before a lap was completed, Southworth was spun, and Ashley Anderson was relegated to the rear on the restart. Again, Knopps led at the start but Josh Hessler overtook the lead on lap two. However, before the lap was scored, Ashley Anderson appeared to suffer a flat tire drawing the caution flag. It was Knopps returned to the point again.

Hessler was not finished though as on the restart, he overtook the leader as Knopps settled in behind him. Hessler began to stretch his advantage as Southworth moved to the second position. It was Clayton Wagamon on the move as he overtook second on the high side as Mike Anderson raced into fourth.

Wagamon closed the gap on the leader and drove low in turn four to take over the top position as Southworth followed him past Hessler and took the runner up spot. Justin A-Strike drew the last caution of the event when his car came to a stop in turn three. The restart saw no changes as Wagamon used the last four laps to drive out to s sizable advantage and Southworth come home in second. Hessler ended his fine run in third ahead of Mike Anderson as Knopps rounded out the top five.

Jeff Brauer and Curt Myers won their respective heats in the Super Stocks and there are few words that can describe the action at feature time. It was Bart Steffen into the lead from the pole as he led the first three laps. Brauer overtook the lead on lap four but Steffen continued to remain with him as the two went side by side with Brauer having the slightest advantage.

Jesse Redetzke and Myers were driving through the crowd and into the third and fourth position after having started deeper in the field due to the inverted start. A spinning Andrew Mackey draw the caution and the already good racing action was about to become intense.

It was Brauer on the restart as Jesse Redetzke moved into second through the middle of the track. Myers used the high line to overtake third and Tommy Richards moved into the top five. As Myers was challenging for second, a corner two spin involving two cars slowed the action. Under green, Redetzke worked the middle of the track and Brauer bobbled slightly. Redetzke and Myers checked up and made contact, but Myers recovered sooner and used a slide job in turn two to pass Brauer. Brauer wasn’t intimidated and didn’t lift, stayed right under Myers read bumper down the backstretch, and dove low into turn three and tried to return the favor. Myers was too fast in the outer grove though and Brauer couldn’t move up in front of him in turn four. A second spin by Mackey halted the spectacular show up front momentarily.

The restart saw Myers drive to the win, but it was now Arron Wilson’s turn. In the last few circuits, he used the low line and moved from outside the top five into the runner up position at the checkered flag. Brauer’s great run ended with him in third over Redetzke and Tommy Richards.

The Midwest Modifieds saw Shane Halopka, Josh Wahlstrom, and Cody Borgeson, winning their heats but is was Brandon Jensen to an impressive with from the pole position at feature time. The race went caution free and Jensen was simply on a different page than the rest of the field as he dominated the event.

Travis Anderson looked good in his own right as he ran alone in the second position the entire distance to the checkered flag. Behind him Nick Koehler finished third as Dan Larson Jr. looked very good in the fourth position as he passed both fifth finishing Calvin Iverson and the very tough Shane Halopka late in the going.

The Street Stocks saw Parker Anderson and CJ Wagner win heats as Parker Anderson went on to sweep the night. It was Anderson early as Danny Richards moved to second and Mike Knudtson into third. Quain Busitzky spun and slowed the action momentarily but it was Anderson back out front under green. There was three-wide racing for the second position as Dustin Doughty joined the fray.

Knudtson found himself in second and he tried to overtake the lead down low as they went two-wide behind him. Richards gained control over third when Braden Brauer spun in turn three. Cars began to stack up and after hard contact, Hunter Anderson’s car suddenly rolled. The red flag was displayed and Hunter Anderson, Warren Hanson, Quain Busitzky, and Braden Brauer were all eliminated with damage too extensive to continue.

Green flag racing saw Richards moved to second and challenge under the leader, Anderson. They moved side by side, but Anderson regained control. Richards looked to go high and pass for the lead and although he was able to get a fender up to the rear of Anderson’s door, it was Anderson winning at the checkered flag. Richards took a close second as Doughty nipped Knudtson for third. Andrew Hanson rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Pure Stocks were swept by Dean Pronschinske as Nick Carvelli lead the first half of the feature. Pronschinske, who is making a habit out of going to victory lane this year, patiently waited in second, overtook the point when given the opportunity, and drove away to the win. Devin Fries and Cole Richards rounded out the top four.

Bradley York and Jason Bauer won the hornet heats as York went on to sweep the night. Firstly, it was Roy Cooper in the lead in the feature as Lukas Brackin moved into second, Armond Love to third, and York into fourth. Love drove into second as the red flag flew for a rolling Justin Lamm in turn one.

On the restart, Cooper forced Love way out of the groove in nearly into the wall. Brackin took advantage and drove by both to the lead. York too closed and moved into second. Brackin pushed up the track on his own in turn two and York drove into the lead. In the closing laps, Derek Krumrie overtook third, Jason Bauer moved to fourth, and Love survived to finish fifth.

The Red Cedar Speedway takes off the Memorial Day weekend as many classes will be running high paying specials at other tracks in WISSOTA. They will return to racing action on Friday, May 31, 2019. The WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Hornets will all be in action.
