MAHDER MAKES IT TWO IN A ROW AT RED CEDAR
It was hero's night at the Red Cedar Speedway this past Friday where the speedway honored all Police, Fire, EMS and First Responders.
Aaron Wilson and Robbie Johnson led the field to green in the Late Model division but a quick move would put Jim Carlson out to the early lead. Chad Mahder did not waste any time from his 7th starting position as within a lap Mahder was challenging for the lead and a short time later took full command and began to pull away. Carlson settled into 2nd while John Kaanta and Buddy Hanestad began to move forward the two moved past Wilson into the top 5 but would not have enough to close on the leaders as Mahder took the win followed by Carlson, Kaanta, Hanested & Wilson
Travis Anderson took the early lead in the Midwest Modified division over Reese Schlosser and Anderson would start to dominate the event with a commanding lead. Behind Anderson, David Simpson and Brady Larson began to battle. Simpson would surpass Larson and mount a charge towards Anderson, shrinking the lead lap after lap. With a few laps remaining Simpson was within striking distance, as the two took the white flag Andersoin remained the leader but a small slipup by Anderson in turns 3 and 4 allowed Simpson to make his move and win by a small margin over Anderson. Brady Larson came home 3rd followed by William Moelter and Jesse Bryan.
Kevin Adams started from the front row and took every command of the Modified division. Adams set a torrid pace and looked to be well on his way to another feature win a t the speedway. Mike Anderson and Cory Mahder began to move up through the field and started to close in on Adams as Adams started to deal with lap traffic. Anderson closed to the rear bumper of Adams as they approached a pack of lap cars. Anderson shot to the inside and made his move with a lap remaining to secure the lead. Adams made one last charge to the outside on the final lap to try to take back the lead but it was not enough. Anderson would secure the win followed by Adams, Mahder, Shane Halopka and Kennedy Swan.
The Super Stock division continued their streak of tight racing upfront as Kolby Keihl took the lead to start the main event. Behind Kiehl, Rick Simpson, Jesse Redetzke and Terran Spacek engaged in a tight battle that ensued lap after lap with Spacek emerging into 2nd position. Spacek would set his sights on Kiehl and wouldn't waste any time closing in on him and making his move for the lead. Spacek grabbed the lead and never looked back as he took the win followed by Kiehl, Simpson, Redetzke and a hard charging Alex Myers.
Gunnar Watkins and Dylan Baskin battled early in the Street Stock Division. Watkins would emerge as the leader and looked very strong out front. Watkins set a torrid pace out front as Kyle Genett & Cody Kummer raced side by side for 2nd. The two would swap spots multiple times as they closed in on Watkins. Jeff Nowak would also close in on the leaders. As the laps wound down, Kummer would secure second from Genett and charge toward Watkins. Kummer would shoot to the low side and drive past for the lead. Watkins tried to cross over but Kummer was too much. Kummer would win followed by Watkins, Genett, Nowak and Andrew Hansen.
Maison Posten crossed the line 1st in the RCS Hornets but a failed tech inspection for a tire size infraction would hand the win to Shawn Poston.
The speedway is off from racing the weekend for fans to enjoy Memorial Day Weekend and will return for Farm Night on Friday May 31st.
